 GORKHATRI (OLD TEHSIL )  PESHAWAR:

 In Peshawar, Pakistan, Gorkhatri (or Gor Khuttree, literally meaning "Warrior's Grave") gor khateri  peshawar (old heritage ) pakistan - religious building is a historical site.
Alexander Cunningham identified it as the Kanishka stupa, the giant stupa of King Kanishka the Great,whileProfessor Dr. Ahmad Hasan Dani identified it as the location where the famous Buddha bowl tower once stood. 






 



Jahanara Begum, daughter of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, constructed a pavilion on the ancient site at the beginning of the 16th century and converted the site into a caravanserai (roadside inn), and called it Sarai Jahanabad.For the convenience of travellers, she also built a Jama Masjid, a sauna bath and two wells within Sarai Jahanabad. 




 





 

The Sikhs made the site into the residence and official headquarters oftheir mercenary general, Paolo Avitabile, who from 1838-1842 was governor of Peshawar.There, they built aHindu temple for Shiva. 




 

Gorkhatri is a traditional serai of the Mughal period and is situated at one of Peshawar City's highest points.It is a fortified compound that consists of 160x160 square meters of area.
There are two famous gates: one to the east and the other to the west.In the middle is the Gorakshanath temple, a network of cells and buildings on the south and west side of the complex, and a fire brigade.
